Ashanti Regional Minister gives unlawful illegal miners fourteen days to leave water bodies

Ashanti Regional Minister,, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has given a severe fourteen day cutoff time for unlawful diggers in the region to stop movements of every sort in woods saves and water bodies or face legitimate outcomes.The mandate is essential for the government’s authority’s increased endeavors to battle unlawful mining, referred to locally as galamsey, which has caused serious contamination and obliteration of regular assets.

Tending to a news meeting on Thursday, sixth February, Dr Amoakohene reaffirmed his obligation to handling the issue, cautioning:

If you are mining within the forest reserves and you don’t want to be on the bad side of the law, you have two weeks to vacate or to leave those spaces. Again, the other area had to do with our water bodies. So we are also giving them two weeks.

He further announced the deployment of a task force to enforce the directive, stating:

If you have any investment in these illegal activities, polluting our water bodies and destroying the environment, you have two weeks to leave. A team will be dispatched to restore normalcy in the mining sector.

Dr Amoakohene also revealed ongoing discussions with other regional ministers to implement a coordinated approach in protecting shared water resources.we likewise understood that the vast majority of the streams have their ways through various or different districts. I’m cooperating with the other local pastors who similarly share the majority of the feeders of the waterway, so we can be comprehensive in our methodology towards battling this galamsey issue.

His assertion follows a new order from the Ecological Security Organization (EPA), gave on 28th January, teaching the quick suspension of all unlawful mining on water bodies cross country. EPA Acting CEO, Teacher Nana Ama Browne Klutse, underlined that the mandate applies to both little and enormous scope mining exercises.
