Special Prosecutor declares Ken Ofori-Atta wanted over national cathedral, SML deals

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has proclaimed Finance Minister Ken Ken Ofori-Atta needed over corruption and corruption- related offenses connected to numerous problematic arrangements during the administration of former President Nana Akufo-Addo.

The declaration was made during a press conference on Wednesday, 12 February 2025, tended to by Special Prosecutor, Lawyer Kissi Agyebeng.

The OSP has blamed Mr Ofori-Atta for making monetary misfortune the state in four high-profile cases, including the disputable Public House of God project, the Rescue vehicle spare parts bargain, the GRA-SML contract, and the end of a conveyance misfortune decrease and related network improvement project contract between the ECG and Beijing Technology.

This development comes barely 24 hours after reports emerged that unknown individuals in military uniform had raided the former minister’s residence at Cantonments in Accra.

Reacting to the alleged raid, Mr Agyebeng denied any involvement by the OSP, suggesting that the incident may have been staged.

Our intelligence leads us to believe that the purported raid on Mr Ofori-Atta’s residence was either staged or, at best, an act by impostors attempting to discredit the OSP and derail the investigation. You know us very well. The OSP is never deterred by such occurrences, and investigations will proceed as prescribed by law.

The Special Prosecutor also disclosed that Mr Ofori-Atta’s lawyers had informed the office that he had left the country for a medical emergency. However, the OSP finds this explanation unconvincing.

We firmly believe this is merely a ploy by Mr Ofori-Atta to avoid returning to the jurisdiction and personally answering questions regarding the investigations.

We are convinced that his true intention was clearly stated in the first letter his lawyers sent to the OSP on 31 January 2025—he has left the jurisdiction indefinitely. That was the initial communication, and we believe it reflects his actual plan.

Lawyer Kissi Agyebeng concluded by declaring the former Finance Minister a fugitive and urged him to return to Ghana voluntarily, warning that the OSP would take necessary measures to enforce his return if he failed to comply.
