A suspect has been taken into custody by the Ghana Police Service in relation to the alleged murder of a senior lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), who vanished inexplicably earlier this week.
The suspect, Joshua Karry Arthur, was discovered at the home of the deceased lecturer in Essuokyir, Central Region, according to a statement released by the police on Thursday.
Colleagues reported the lecturer missing on Tuesday, May 21, 2025, after several attempts to contact him were unsuccessful.
”The deceased lecturer had been reported missing on 21st May, 2025 by his colleagues who had indicated to Police that all efforts to reach him had yielded no response. Police proceeded to the residence of the deceased, where the suspect was found and arrested”.
After finding blood traces at the scene, investigators found a pile of sand about 23 meters from the house. Police discovered a buried body thought to be that of the missing lecturer after clearing the sand.

After being recovered, the body was placed at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Following additional property searches, a number of items thought to be belonging to the deceased were found. Among these were a laptop, a 50-inch TV, two Samsung cell phones, and a Toyota Fortuner car key.
