Black Sherif, a Ghanaian musician, has reached a major milestone in his increasing international recognition with his nomination in the 2025 BET Awards’ Best International Act category.
Tyla (South Africa), Rema (Nigeria), Ayra Starr (Nigeria), Any Gabrielly (Brazil), Basky (UK), Uncle Waffles (Eswatini), Ezra Collective (UK), Joé Dwèt Filé (France), MC Luanna (Brazil), and SDM (France) are among the diverse group of international talent that the “Kwaku the Traveller” hitmaker will be competing against.
With the release of the complete list of nominees on May 8, anticipation for the main awards ceremony on June 9 increased. With more than ten nominations, including Album of the Year for GNX and Video of the Year for his Drake diss track Not Like Us, American rapper Kendrick Lamar is leading this year’s nominations.
Ghana is making a comeback to one of BET’s most prominent categories with Black Sherif’s nomination. The BET Awards have previously honored Ghanaian artists like Kojo Antwi, D Black, Sarkodie, R2Bees, Stonebwoy, Fuse ODG, Kwesi Arthur, MzVee, and Camidoh.
Despite being a first-time participant in the main ceremony of the BET Awards, Black Sherif was nominated for and won the 2023 BET Hip Hop Award, solidifying his status as one of Africa’s emerging music exports.
His most recent album, Iron Boy, is currently taking off, topping a number of streaming charts and solidifying his place in the regional and global music scenes.
