‘Ghana is a crime scene; the economy was criminally handled’ – President Mahama

The administration of former President Nana Akufo-Addo has been harshly criticized by President John Dramani Mahama for mismanaing the Ghanaian economy over the course of his eight-year term. He described the nation as a “crime scene,” claiming that the economy was recklessly managed and crippled beyond reasonable levels. We were all aware that the economy was in trouble, but some of the things I’m learning about myself… I mean, President John Dramani Mahama has slammed the administration of former President Nana Akufo-Addo for mismanaging the Ghanaian economy over the course of his eight-year term. He claimed that the economy was recklessly managed and crippled beyond reasonable levels, describing the nation as a “crime scene.” The President addressed members of the National Tripartite Committee (NTC) on Thursday, February 20, where he pledged his support for revitalizing the faltering economy and demanded that individuals collaborate to achieve this goal. I cannot comprehend how a government could have been so careless, and Ghana is actually a crime scene. He reiterated his commitment to cutting back on government spending and making sacrifices to preserve the public purse: It seems that the political class is loosening their belts while everyone else is tightening theirs, which has led to some mistrust of the political class. However, I want to reassure you that there will be no wasteful spending as we all tighten our belts.

National Minimum Wage and Base Pay Increment Finalised

The National Trade Commission (NTC) then concluded negotiations regarding the 2025 Base Pay increase and National Daily Minimum Wage (NDMW). Following its meeting on Thursday, February 20 in Accra, the committee decided to raise the minimum wage in 2025 by 10% from the previous year, according to a communiqué. With effect from March 1, 2025, this represents an increase from GH18.15 to GH19.97. In the statement, it was mentioned that the agreement on the raise took into account the current challenges facing the economy, the cost of living, the viability of the business, and the desire to achieve a higher level of employment.
