Ken Ofori-Atta removed from wanted list; set to return soon – OSP

Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has given a report with respect to the statement of previous Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta  as a criminal.

As per the OSP, Mr Ofori-Atta is not generally viewed as a needed individual following correspondence from his legal counselors, affirming a particular date for his re-visitation of Ghana in the wake of going through clinical treatment in the US.

The OSP had pronounced the previous Finance Minister wanted for corruption and related offences connected to various problematic arrangements during a press conference on Wednesday, 12 February 2025.

Mr Ofori-Atta was blamed for making monetary misfortune the state in five high-profile cases, including the questionable National Cathedral project , the emergency vehicle spare parts bargain, the GRA-SML contract, and the end of a circulation misfortune decrease and organization improvement project contract among ECG and Beijing Innovation.

Meanwhile, in the latest statement signed by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng and dated Tuesday, 18 February 2025, the OSP confirmed receipt of a letter from Mr Ofori-Atta’s lawyers, assuring his voluntary return.

On 18 February 2025, Mr Ofori-Atta transmitted a communication through his lawyers to the OSP, in which he stated a definite date for his voluntary return to the jurisdiction. This marks a significant shift from his previous stance of remaining outside the jurisdiction indefinitely.

The statement noted that the OSP had accepted the request and rescheduled Mr Ofori-Atta’s attendance for further action regarding the allegations against him.

However, the OSP warned that should he fail to return by the stated date, he would once again be placed on the wanted list as a fugitive, with all necessary legal measures taken to secure his return to Ghana and compliance with OSP proceedings.
