Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, the general secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has warned appointees that the party will not defend those engaged in corrupt activities during the current administration.
He asserted that the NDC and the government are totally dedicated to the “reset” agenda and emphasized that the president will hold his own officials accountable rather than just mentioning accountability in passing.
His extreme caution follows the ongoing controversy surrounding a $800 cash gift given to Patricia Oduro Koranteng, also known as Nana Agradaa, the founder of the Heaven Way Church and an evangelist, by Sammy Gyamfi, the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
In an interview with Joy News on Tuesday, May 13, Mr. Kwetey emphasized that, in contrast to the previous Akufo-Addo administration, the current administration would not be forgiving of officials who defraud the nation.
He stated:
As opposed to what happened over the last eight years, where people could practically exploit the system for personal gain at the country’s expense, this time around, no matter who you are, if you engage in conduct that effectively shortchanges the nation, the party at the highest level will not protect you simply because you are a party member”.
President John Mahama, he continued, is committed to leaving a lasting legacy and will not sacrifice accountability for the benefit of any one person.
”Over the last eight years, we barely saw a president with the courage to reshuffle. It was almost as if he was afraid of his own appointees. This president is not afraid to sack you at the slightest provocation. He will not hesitate to ensure that anyone who does wrong is held to account”.
