President Mahama orders IGP to submit report on 2020, 2024 election deaths

President John Dramani Mahama has uncovered that he instructed the Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare—to report on the situation with examinations concerning the 2020 and 2024 election-related deaths

Eight fatalities occurred during the 2020 election because of rough occurrences in supporters like Ablekuma Central and Odododiodio in the Greater Accra Techiman South in the Bono East Locale, Savelugu in the Northern Area, and Awutu Senya East in the Focal Locale.

The Middle for Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) detailed six passings during the 2024 election in regions including Tolon, Damongo, Awutu Senya East, and Ahafo Ano South West.

Talking at the National Muslim Prayer and Thanksgiving event at the National Mosque in Accra on Friday, 10 January, President Mahama expressed his lament over the awful deaths and focused on the significance of examination and equity for the people in question and their families.

IGP George Akuffo Dampare
Even though this political decision passed on calmly, we should perceive that a couple of our residents lost their lives. My comprehension is just about five of our residents were killed during the time spent in the political race. This isn’t the first time; in 2020, we realized that eight of our residents were killed.

If these proceed and a fair consequence isn’t given, then, at that point, it breeds exemption. That is why, as a party, we have said we should examine and figure out what prompted these killings so we can make a move to forestall them later on.

He added:

I’ve asked my Executive Secretary to write to the IGP to give us a report on the status of investigations into these killings. Justice must be done, and we will also ask the Attorney General to determine fair and adequate compensation for the families of those who lost their lives.

President Mahama also called for national unity and collective responsibility to advance national development during his tenure.
